How do you evaluate window-film energy savings in Houston?
Window film can reduce solar heat entering through suitable glazing, but that does not establish a fixed reduction in your electricity bill. Energy results depend on the existing windows, proposed film, shading, HVAC system, weather, and building use. A project quote and an energy model answer different questions.
Why is a solar rating not a bill-savings percentage?
A solar rating describes a tested glass-and-film system. An electricity bill includes cooling and other uses, such as appliances and lighting. Applying a film's rejection percentage to the whole bill therefore overstates what that measurement tells you about the building.
Compare solar heat gain coefficients for the relevant baseline and proposed system. Do not multiply the bill by a headline infrared-rejection or total-solar-energy-rejection number.
