Commercial security window film is effective for most commercial applications, but there are situations where it is not the best choice:
Dual-pane insulated glass with existing Low-E coatings: Adding security film to Low-E glass can cause thermal stress in the sealed unit. The added heat absorption can break the seal between panes, causing fogging and condensation that requires full window replacement. We test every window for existing coatings before recommending film.
Windows requiring ballistic-level protection: Security film resists forced entry and wind-borne debris, but it does not stop bullets. Properties requiring ballistic protection (banks, courthouses, high-security government) need laminated ballistic glass or polycarbonate glazing — not aftermarket film. We can refer you to ballistic glass contractors in the Houston area.
Structurally compromised frames: If the window frame itself is deteriorated, rusted, or improperly anchored, the structural attachment system cannot form a reliable bond. Security film is only as strong as the frame holding the glass. During our free assessment, we inspect frame condition and will recommend frame repair or replacement before film installation if needed.
Cosmetic-only needs: If your concern is purely decorative or you only need UV protection without security, a thinner specialty film is more cost-effective. Security film is engineered for impact resistance and carries a price premium that is not justified if physical protection is not needed.
