“Greenhouse was great, I love my new system. Yousef was very informative and made the entire process easy. Highly recommend!”
Window tint percentage calculator
Enter the glass VLT and film VLT to estimate their combined visible light transmission. The approximation is glass percentage × film percentage ÷ 100. The result does not certify heat performance, privacy, legal compliance, or the exact appearance of an installed window.

How do you estimate combined glass-and-film VLT?
Use the measured glass VLT or the relevant product data, then enter the proposed film's VLT. The starting values are examples, not measurements of your windows.
Use the actual glass specification or a suitable measurement.
How does visible light transmission work?
Window tint percentage measures Visible Light Transmission (VLT) — the amount of visible light that passes through the film and glass combined. A 50% tint allows half of visible light through, while a 5% tint (often called "limo tint") blocks 95% of visible light.
Adding film changes the transmission of the glass-and-film combination. For example, 80% glass VLT and 35% film VLT give an approximate 28% combined result. Treat that arithmetic as a planning aid rather than a compliance finding.
Films with the same VLT can have different solar performance. Compare named products and their test conditions rather than assuming a ceramic film always rejects more heat. The film-types guide explains the separate attributes.
How do you arrange architectural film installation in Houston?
Once you know your target VLT, the next step is choosing the right film and having it professionally installed. Greenhouse Solar Control has completed over 12,000 window film installations across the Houston metro area since opening more than 15 years ago.
A VLT calculation describes visible light, not a promised temperature reduction. Our heat-reduction film service assesses solar control using the actual glass and product data. Explore residential window-film services for separate comfort, privacy, appearance, and glass-retention goals.
Not sure which film is right for your home or business? Use our window tinting cost guide for Houston-specific pricing ranges, or compare window film types to see heat rejection, UV blocking, and VLT specs side by side.
What does a combined VLT estimate mean?
Combined VLT estimates how much visible light passes through glass and film together. It is not a heat-rejection score or a legal certification. Use product data and actual measurements for a final decision; the calculator cannot confirm compliance or reproduce a room's appearance exactly.
For the wider service context, see architectural window-film categories.
Enter the glass and film values separately. A displayed shade is only illustrative because screens, lighting, and the actual glazing change what you see.
For this decision, compare glass VLT, film VLT, approximation, meter reading. Bring the relevant details to the assessment so the recommendation addresses your actual property.
Continue with our guide to residential window film. It addresses a related part of the decision so you can check the scope before approving work.
